Antonio La Tona left Palermo,
Sicily in 1960 for New York City. After three years in New York, he
came to San Francisco where he found the city’s Victorian architecture
and atmosphere much more inspiring for a person with artistic
interests like him.
He worked for two years restoring antiques and in 1969 he established Caffe Sport
as a bar and sandwich shop.
Every day Antonio worked at the shop he stayed after hours carving and painting
new pieces of art in the Sicilian-Byzantine Style, which he added to the
restaurant's decor. His unique ideas and pieces gave the restaurant an
atmosphere unlike any other.
Like Sicily itself, Antonio has created an interior
mixed with different styles that can only be built with time, devotion, and love
for art. Therefore, Like Sicily Caffe Sport is one of a kind-L' Unico.
